The theme of light permeates Scripture and reflects the character of God. In Genesis 1:3 God said, “. . . ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.” On the first day of creation God separated the light from darkness. He called the light day and He called the darkness night.

There are numerous references to light as opposed to darkness in God’s Word. I John 1:5 states that “. . . God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” Ephesians 5:8-9 says, “For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and ...

Most of us know the song, “Jesus Loves Me.” We usually think of it as a children’s song often sung in Sunday School or children’s church but the theology underlying this precious song is profound. Here are the words written in 1860 by Anna B. Warner:

  1. Jesus loves me! This I know,

      The Bible tells me so.
  2. Jesus loves me! This I know,
As He loved so long ago,
    Taking children on His knee,
Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
  3. Jesus loves me still today,
Walking with me on my way,
    Wanting...
    ...
  4. ...

Should the Lord call me home, I’m ready. My house is in order. I’m not dying nor do I wish to die one minute sooner than the Lord chooses but I’m ready.  I have a friend who is facing the last days (perhaps hours) of his life. He is dying from a brutal disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis‎ usually abbreviated as ALS and commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s disease.” ALS has robbed him of his body movements, his breathing, and his speech but it cannot steal his salvation or his joy. He is a vibrant Christian who longs for heaven. He has fixed his eyes on Jesus, the “Author and Perfecter of faith who for the joy set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame, and has sat down ...

As a 22 year old, I had a very important decision to make. Having been born in England to an American father and an English mother, I had to decide when I was 22 whether I chose to be an American or a British citizen. In that day you couldn’t be both; you had to choose. I chose to be an American citizen and was awarded with a much-prized “Certificate of Citizenship;” it wasn’t a hard choice. I love this country and am proud to be an American.

The rules have changed since then. Now an immigrant can retain both citizenship in their native country and in the United States. I’m “aggin” it. I believe people who leave their native land and arrive in America as their new home need to make a choice ...
