“.... There arose another generation …. who did not know the Lord, nor yet the work which He had done for Israel.” Judges 2:10

“In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes.” Judges 17:6

Looking at current events in America and the world, the theme of everyone doing what is right in their own eyes is apparent. Our current situation resembles the time of the judges in the Old Testament of the Bible. It was a time when there was no king in Israel. The people had turned away from God. “Science will save us” says the LA Times in an April 13, 2020 article by Diya Chacko. A recent television ad from Pfizer Drug declares, “Science will win.” This is the collective prayer of much of America and the world. My question is, “Has science taken the place of God in our collective consciousness? Do we now worship science instead of God because science has all the answers and, after all, science is visible and tangible?” I would assert that science and God are not incompatible. Now it’s a symbol for the homosexual cause. Today’s generation uses terms like “woke” and “cancel culture.” For ancients like me, what do these terms mean?

Here’s a rather lengthy definition from Merriam-Webster&...

The military teaches you a number of valuable lessons. For example, you are taught to obey orders from your commanding officer, the chain-of-command, respect for authority, and rank has its privileges. The lesson I want to focus our attention on is obeying authority. We live in a day and age in which disobedience to those in authority is rampant. Much like the repeated theme of the book of Judges, “Every man did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25), no one is in charge. The old adage declares, “If everyone is in charge, no one is in charge.” How true!

What a contrast between our current culture’s view of authority and the view of a centurion in the Bible who came to Jesus to ask for healing for his ...
