I read an article on one of the news feeds that Meghan Markle says she and her husband, Prince Harry, plan to take a “fluid approach to gender” when it comes to raising their child. Really? The idea is that Meghan and Harry will let their child choose with which gender, male or female (or genderless), he/she identifies. The royals are not the only ones choosing this way of raising their children. It is very trendy these days among millennials and Gen X’ers.
Is transgenderism or gender fluidity possible and does the Bible say anything about them? Science tells us that no matter what is done to transgenderize the body through drugs, surgery, or dress, God has hard-wired men and women to be either male or female. Science proves it. In the prestigious journal, Stanford Medicine, an article by Bruce Goldman indicated that the brains of men and women are uniquely different. Researcher Dr. Nirao Shah, professor of psychology at Stanford University, discovered that the behaviors of each gender are “innate rather than learned.” Since Shah’s research in 1998, there’s been a sea change with new technologies generating a growing pile of evidence that there are inherent differences in how men’s and women’s brains are wired and how they work. So, contrary to cultural thinking, men and women are neither interchangeable nor capable of becoming the other gender regardless of how one feels. The genders have been designed by God to be complementary. We need one another complete with our differences!
The Bible affirms that we are created uniquely different. No matter what is done to the body. No matter what we think or imagine, we are born either male or female. The Bible declares, “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27). God created babies in the womb either male or female. He made no mistake on our gender. Transgenderism says, “God made a mistake. I’m a female trapped in a male body and I need to reconcile who I feel I am on the inside with the body I have on the outside. Thus I will be god and fix His mistake.” The audacity of that kind of thinking!
The raising of a child with gender fluidity is absolute folly. Neither science nor the Bible supports that thinking or parenting. Quite the contrary, it is imperative that parents “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). Parents, not the child, do the training. Parents, not the child, choose to raise him or her in the gender with which they were born.
God made us and He makes no mistakes,
