As counselors, Elsie and I know it is a big deal when people contact us for counseling. It takes courage and humility to reach out for help. Individuals and couples often face challenges that seem insurmountable. They need to hear objective, experienced, biblical counsel and that is what we offer.
We have been trained to be objective and look at the facts. We have been taught to be objective by keeping our emotions in check. We utilize objective assessments such as the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis and PREPARE/ENRICH and we gather facts upfront from the Personal History Questionnaire which is designed to save fact-gathering time in session.
Elsie and I are experienced. Both of us have been counselors in churches and agencies for many years. We also receive continuing education through the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC). Every two years, AACC holds an international conference where the best of the best come to speak in the plenary sessions and the 100+ workshops. There is also ample opportunity to purchase books for ongoing study as well as CDs, DVDs, and flash drives.
Finally, we are both born again Christians who offer biblical counseling. We are not merely Christians utilizing secular psychology. We are Christians who believe and use the Bible in our counseling practice. We believe that God has answers for today’s problems in His Word. We take the Bible seriously and require clients to memorize, read, and meditate on passages pertinent to their issue.
If you come for counseling you need to know that Hopewell Counseling does not take health insurance. Why don’t we? Because health insurance plans do not cover the 6 major areas in which we specialize: sexual addiction, eating disorders, anger management, relationship (esp. marriage) conflict, premarital counseling, and parenting adult children. We can accept all other manner of payment. We also offer a limited number of scholarships to clients with demonstrated need. Please see our website for further details—www.hopewellcounsel.com
Should you come for counseling? If you’ve tried repeatedly to solve the issue(s) on your own and cannot or if you find yourself stuck in the same dead end cycle, call us. We can help. Yes, counseling is expensive but if it brings about positive change, it is worth every penny. To stay stuck is to continue in a “stable state of misery.”
